Mini-lectures

Tracing Amateur Radio heritage in Australia
The Centenary of Organised Amateur Radio in Australia has resulted in careful research of the early history in a way not previously undertaken. Leading that project with others has been WIA Centenary Committee member Peter Wolfenden VK3RV. His interesting presentation covers the early years of wireless experimentation up to the radio broadcasting and world-wide communications pioneered by radio amateurs.

The end of Amateur Radio
Everyone has a mobile phone, skype, the internet and email. This means the end of Amateur Radio, don’t it! Why would anyone want to get involved?

This is the thinking of some in Australia and certainly overseas. Unfortunately Professor Julius Sumner Miller is no longer available to answer the question ‘Why is it so?’

However a mystery speaker will give a presentation on this topic, and then hand around a hat to collect funds for a tombstone ‘Amateur Radio R.I.P'.

VHF/UHF/Microwave DXpedition
The VK Microwave Group has chosen the Centre Victoria RadioFest to make a presentation on its VK9NA DXpedition to Norfolk Island 3-14 January 2009.

Alan Devlin VK3XPD, Kevin Johnston VK4UH and Michael Coleman VK3KH mounted an ambitious venture taking a 1.2 metre dish for all bands from 1296MHz through to 10GHz.

Amateur Radio goes to school
The Sherbrooke Community School with the help of local radio amateurs has assisted ten students and four teachers obtain their Foundation Licences.

Sherbrooke Community Radio Club President Jim McNabb VK3AMN and teacher Ed Seeto VK3FEET will give a presentation that is sure to be of interest to all teachers, parents and radio amateurs wanting to help grow Amateur Radio.
